Q. Are you a "Free Spirit”? Do you have a desire for adventure? Are you predictable? Do you like to save money and “Mother Earth”? Do you like the old and new technology? Do you want a “Great Escape” at your fingertips? Have you ever wanted to be on the “cutting edge” of the next wave? Do you want something else to think about and do instead of the same old boring crap you have done a million times? Are you responsible and getting older? Is it time to say “YIKES” and go for it? A. Not everybody is cut out to own and ride a modern scooter. You need balance, common sense, tactful driving habits, self confidence and a desire to have more fun then you are use to. You can use any excuse you want when buying a Scoot but the real reason will always be "Fun and Adventure". Scoots save gas, save space, make sense and are used around the world as a major means of transportation. In the states we like to take the "boring road" to and from every destination. Now I am not implying that a scoot can be your only means of transportation, of course not. There is always walking, running, mass transit and your family truckster. Just ponder for a moment were a scoot could take you: back and forth to work on many days, grocery store for milk and eggs, a great date with your favorite somebody, post office, gym, park, beach, concert, meeting and to visit all your friends. The destinations are endless and you always park like you were the first one there. Todays well built scooter (not the cheapies) are reliable, fast for safety, quiet, comfortable and sold in many sizes. There are residential neighborhood scooters, city bikes, commuter scoots and touring scooters that are made for the open road. Todays quality scooters start at around $2500.00 and go as high as $10,000.00 for a large touring scoot. We even sell a 3 wheel scoot with 2 front wheels that articulate. This bike rides like it is on 2 wheels but has 3 wheels for safety. Next we will have a Hybrid scoot (summer 2012), electric at slow speeds, gas for higher speeds and charging batteries. It will also plug-in for battery charging. Everywhere else in the world scooters are a necessity used for transportation, sipping high cost gasoline, making congested cities livable and making the rider “smile” uncontrollably. Think of the ways a scoot could change your life and bring back the smiles that we all enjoy. I do no that scoots are not for everybody, the question is. Is it for you? I know it has made me younger, happier and a little less predictable. That sometimes is as good as it gets. Remember drive within your means, pay attention, be responsible and enjoy the ride.....Jeff Dunn
Q. My car has an electrical gremlin which makes it not start sometimes, what should I do? If the repair shop cannot fix the problem because it is not there when they are diagnosing it, what should I do? If the problem only occurs randomly, what should I do? If they cannot repair the problem in 5 minutes, what should I do? If I have to take the car back multiple times because of this problem, what should I do? A. All car problems are very repairable when they are constant enough to appear even when the technician is diagnosing the problem. I cannot count the number of times when customers have stopped by so I could listen to a loud noise their car has been making. They get to the shop and the noise that has been there all week is now silent. They explain to me that they are not crazy and the noise was very loud and then the question, what do you think the noise was? How much will it cost? Is my car safe? At that point we can do a visual inspection and explain what to look for and do when the noise returns. We also look for safety concerns but we cannot fix what is not there. Electrical problems are even worse. Many modules in todays cars are networked, have default and run on low voltage. If there is any continuity issues or voltage issues you can encounter check engine lights, running or starting problems. If the module or sensor fails, diagnosis is usually cut and dry. Find it, replace it, problem solved. If the problem is continuity it many times is part time. In these cases the problem usually always gets worse before it gets better but your patience can be taxed. Cars do not have souls, technicians and customers do. These problems are solved by: the part finally fails, the symptoms are pointing at a common problem, the problem occurs during diagnosis or the technician has seen this before and knows what causes it and how to repair it. So the moral of the dilemma is, All car problems are repairable! Just not necessarily on the same schedule as yours. Have any questions or stories, give us a call, Jeff Dunn
Q:How can I save money on my car in the cold winter? A: The #1 thing to do is buy new tires for winter driving "before you hit the curb". If your car feels out of control on snow the reason is worn or the wrong tires. Tire technology has changed more in the last 3 years then in the last 100 years. Talk to a professional about what is available for your safety . One of the big mistakes made in cold weather is starting the car moving it and then shutting it off with out any warm up. This is beg- ging for trouble. Any time you start the engine you should let it run and warm-up for at least 5 minutes. If not there is a good chance your car will not start the next time. In cold weather always use the "fresh air mode" on your heater controls for maximum heat and it will help keep the frost off the inside of your windows. Recirculate mode is only used for maximum air conditioning (not heat). I would also recommend removing your carpeted floor mats and replacing them with rubber mats for winter. This protects the carpet and also reduces moisture inside the cabin. I would also recommend keeping your fuel tank at half full or better. The fuel lubricates and cools the fuel pump that is in the tank. The extra weight will also help with traction in snow. You have to buy fuel sooner or latter so just buy it sooner. It will make the fuel pump live a much longer life. These are my tips for now, more next time. If you have any ques- tions or concerns, I or my staff would be happy to answer them at Dunn's Import Car Service. Drive safe and responsible please, enjoy the weather.......Jeff Dunn

Vespa Madison wants to plan more group rides. You need a 150cc or larger Scoot, enthusiasm, responsibility and the desire to ride the beautiful roads of southern Wisconsin. Email sdunn@tds.net to get on the list.

If you want the best deal, never buy a sailboat in May, a snowmobile in November or the newest PC. The best deals on Scoots is at the end of the season. Next spring will be here in a flash. If you have always wanted one, this is a perfect time to pull the trigger.

If the bike you are riding scares you, try a Vespa. There is nothing like it.
